Security Summer Camp
The Cyber Security Summery Camp, is a camp that is organized every year by Howest. It is one week full of everything to do with, how to write a pen testing report or a CTF.

During this week there would be students from other schools in Europe that would also attend.
Lectures
Throughout the week we got several interesting lectures & practicums where we got the change to apply the knowledge we had seen.
Some of these topics where as followed:
- IT Governance
- IT Forensics
- Pen testing & Audit Report
- WIFI Pentesting & WIFI practicum
- Threat Intelligence
These lectures where divided over the first 3 days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Pen testing & Audit Report
On Wednesday we finally arrived one of the most exciting parts of the camp, namely we got the change to pen test & write a audit report of the Westtoer company
We first got some info about the company environment and the limitations of what we are able to do during the pentest.
After we finished the pen-test and writing the audit report of the findings we where tasked with presenting what we found.
CTF
And finally for the most exciting part of the week, the CTF!
During the CTF everybody was divided in to groups, these groups consisted of Howest students and other international students.
During the first day, we as a group decided to divided the challenges and others where working together.
I focused on the programming challenges, where I got the change to use Python to solve some of the challenges.
During this CTF there also was a sporting challenge where 2 persons of the group needed to solve several challenges such as Cycling and Nintendo Switch games.
The CTF lasted for one and half day, from the Thursday to Friday morning.
Award Ceremony
As a closing to the whole week, there was the award ceremony.
There where 3 prices to be awarded, namely:
- Best Pen-testing Report
- Sporting Challenge
- CTF
Sadly we did not win any awards.

Conclusion
Overall I am very happy, I got to participate in this week. Even tough it was a backup option because I got sick the week I was supposed to go to Sweden and spend a week there instead of doing this camp.
First of all meeting other students from a different country in the same, field, gives us a perspective on our own education and what they learn in other countries.
Even though some of the lectures, we already had in the semester before, it was also filled with new knowledge and relearning some of the stuff we saw is never a bad thing. Applying the things we learned again definitely was enjoyable.
So I can definitely recommend this to other people!
